The state government department of commerce has created a web based consulting service that links together hundreds of individuals and organization in the state who's main task is to assist small business startups and new product development and commercialization. A significant portion of the challenge is to overcome a local culture that does not support change, risk-taking, and self-promotion. Many organizations and individuals have made a commitment to develop a culture of support, security, and reward for risk-taking behaviors. While the project is fairly new, there are some signs and examples of significant success. It is intended to be the next avenue of economic growth for the state and region.
