Organization Politics: A Change Management: A Case Study in Selected Private Universities in Indonesia
Organization catastrophic can be seen as a formal mechanism that leads to organization performance. Formally, indeed, many organizations are appointed by the bureaucracy structure as a result of the organization system. Many of them face, “causalities” as an informal chance mechanism occurring in an organization. Private organization, which is commonly known as a type of organization which concentrates on organization change as a result of minimizing formalization, tends to be successful in accommodating organization politics rather than in public organization. In it self, they perform better as they can facilitate all individual’s needs, in particular to whom they do not have any power in gaining organization politics.
Many private universities in Indonesia can perform best while they can manage their business; however, the least failed in creating good environment while they are trapped with “family” business, in which it is popular in Indonesia that private universities are established and managed by family and or a social foundation based on “the greater family clan”. In Malang, an education city in East Java Indonesia, we nominate two private universities which are trapped in family business (regards to resistance of change), one ongoing private university in a changing process, as a result of their awareness on coming out from family business, and one successful university in implementing change although the family kingdom still occupies. One of the organizations selected was in the hardest way in coming out to the forces of change as a result of difficulty for gathering students with old fashioned marketing method and for fulfilling individual satisfaction. The change process is needed! This paper will examine the change process by the chancellor and be initiated by the senior members of the organization against the “junior” staff.
