Managing Change in Turbulent Times
Today change has changed. No longer is it additive. No longer does it move in a straight line (linear). In many industries it is now discontinuous, abrupt, and distinctly non-linear, as radically different ideas and commercial developments render established products and services obsolete. as a result, jobs have been enriched, enlarged, redefined, and, in many cases, eliminated. People with the kinds of skills that are strategically valuable have been recruited, selected, trained, developed, and, in many cases, eliminated. This unprecedented turbulence has created a critical workplace challenge: to revitalize and rebuild employee spirit, work-team performance, and organizational effectiveness during and following major organizational changes.
This workshop will highlight what we know about managing change, and it will present an application of change management in action using a consumer-product group based in San Francisco, Ca. After reviewing the challenges the company faced as a result of its acquisition by a European multinational firm, the workshop will review actual procedures used to implement the change-management process, as well as review the results of that process, lessons learned, and best practices.
