Environmental Changes and the Business Mental Model
Barriers to SME adoption of environmental initiatives have been increasingly identified in the literature through case studies. Still, much of the studies available on uptake and participation in environmental programs. Some of the barriers are overcome through a number of programs but the remaining low participation and implementation suggests that not all the critical barriers have been addressed. We suggest that a number of barriers relating to awareness of various aspects of environmental impacts require a change in the business mental model. Overcoming these barriers will require a change in the way businesses traditionally look at their processes and products to better identify opportunities that offer both economic and environmental benefits to the organisation.
